Support UB’s Budget Priorities

A unique opportunity awaits those of us who believe that higher education is the key to our region’s renewal. The governor has given every indication that he plans to make higher education a high priority in 2007-08, pledging new funding and attention aimed at transforming the SUNY system so that it reflects the stature of our great state.

In looking at the creation of a new knowledge economy in New York State, powerful university systems like California and Texas, which fuel research and knowledge in their dynamic university centers and prosperity in their communities, provide inspiration.

The governor has asked President John B. Simpson to serve on his Commission on Higher Education, placing UB at the center of this exciting educational renaissance.

We’re prepared to seize this opportunity, galvanizing support for UB and teaching volunteers to effectively advocate on behalf of the university. We must be on the radar as the governor prepares his budget this fall and when the legislative session opens in January. Between now and then, we will be communicating with our advocates and shaping the budget priorities that will support our mutual interests.
