Write a Letter to the Editor Supporting UB Believers

Writing letters to the editors of your area newspapers are one way you can demonstrate your support of an issue in a highly visible manner.

Papers often receive a high volume of letters and only print those that meet specific guidelines for print. The points below describe how you can best put pen to paper and craft a letter that will resonate with a paper's editorial decision makers. Keep it brief. Your letter has a better chance of being printed if it is less than 200 words.

Make it personal. State in your own words why YOU care about an issue and WHY. But keep it friendly. It's ok to vent frustration, but keep your letter positive and lively in tone and use it to focus on asking for action instead of berating what has already been done.

Issue a call to action. Tell your audience something they can do: visit a web site, make a phone call, tell a friend, etc. Often, interactive letters are more appealing than those that just represent an opinion.
